    Biography
Cristina Gallardo-Domas, soprano. She was born in Santiago, Chile. Studies music at Santiago's "Escuela Moderna de Musica" and pursues post-graduate studies at the Juilliard School, New York. Her debut was in 1990, at the Municipal theatre, Santiago, in the title-role of Madame Butterfly. In 1993 she makes her European debut at the Spoletto Festival (Suor Angelica), a role she repeats in the Willy Decker production (Cologne). La Scala sees her La Rondine in 1993. From then on she debuts at each of the main european houses: La Scala (Contes d'Hoffman, Faust, Manon, Turandot, Traviata and Boheme); MET (Traviata, Boheme, Turandot); Vienna (Pagliacci, Turandot, Traviata, Contes d'Hoffman, Boheme, Simon Boccanegra); Paris (Traviata, Boheme, Contes d'Hoffman, Capuletti e I Montecchi, Faust, Otello); Covent Garden (Turandot, Boheme, Madama Butterfly); Zurich (Boheme, Manon Lescaut); Munich (Traviata, Boheme, Simon Boccanegra, Otello); Berlin (Traviata, Otello, Suor Angelica, Madama Butterfly); Amsterdam´s Concertgebouw (Pagliacci, Suor Angelica, Le Villi); Teatro Colon (Suor Angelica, Mefistofele); Salzburg Festival (Turandot); Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Turandot); Tokyo (Traviata); Zurich (Boheme); Ravinia Festival (Otello).

She has partnered with today's top conductors, among them: Chailly, Muti, Mehta, Conlon, Pappano, Harnoncourt, Thielemann, Levine, Pretre, Gergiev, Luisi, Maazel.

Among the stage directors she has worked with: Zeffirelli, Poutney, Kupfer, Stein, Decker, Flimm, Carsen, Leiser-Caurier, Wagner, Asagaroff among others.

Her succesful recordings include: Aria recital "Bel Sogno" (TELDEC);Aida, conducted by Harnoncourt (TELDEC); Suor Angelica conducted by Pappano (EMI); Verdi Sacred Pieces, conducted by Chailly. La Boheme, conducted by Bartoletti (TDK). Simon Boccanegra, conducted by Gatti (TDK). Verdi’s Requiem conducted by Domingo (Glor).

She has sung in 2003 and 2005 Madame Butterfly in a new production, at Covent Garden, to great acclaim, and she won the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera.

In Setember 2006 she was the protagonist of New York MET’s Opening Night with a new production of Madame Butterfly under the direction of Oscar winning Anthony Minghella.

Also in the near future she will sing: Otello (Los Angeles), Madama Butterfly (Vienna, MET, Munich), La Boheme (Covent Garden, Zurich, Genova), Manon Lescaut (Berlin, Madrid), Edgar (Torre del Lago).
